Diet & Diet

An interesting conversation today with Tim, who some might know has altered his diet recently. Many have an aversion to the word diet, and Tim is no different. It occurred to me that our discussion encompassed many misunderstandings around the use & my apparent misuse of the word diet. As such, I am here to provide the literal meanings, which are somewhat varied.

n.

1. The usual food and drink of a personal or animal.
2. A regulated selection of foods, as for medical reasons or cosmetic weight loss.
3. Something used, enjoyed, or provided regularly: subsisted on a diet of detective novels during his vacation.

That said, I would like to clarify to any & all. I am on a diet (see 2), while Tim has simply altered his diet (see 1). If anyone else is dieting this new year, tell me your story & which definition best suits you (I'd love a 3 in here!).
